Bold Serif Fonts: 11 Heavy Serifs for Headlines and Logos
A bold serif is a serif typeface set heavy, usually in Bold (700), ExtraBold (800) or Black (900). You see bold serifs on book covers, packaging and logos.
In the heavy weights, check two things: the spaces inside a, e and o should stay open, and the serifs should still be visible as serifs. Below are 11 bold serif fonts. Each has nine weights from Thin to Black and a variable font.
Edde, a serif with sharp cuts
Edde has cuts in its strokes, and in Bold, ExtraBold and Black they become sharp notches. For branding, packaging and headlines.

Walnuss is a wide serif with short serifs. Some inner stems are rounded, which makes it look organic. In Black, a short word takes up a lot of width, so it works well for logos. For food, packaging and fall campaigns.

- Use the heavy weights large. Bold to Black are for headlines, logos and covers. For body text, use Regular or Medium of the same family.
- Reduce the letter spacing a little. At large sizes, bold serifs often look better with 1 to 3% less letter spacing.
- Pair it with a simple sans. One bold serif per layout is usually enough. A simple sans such as Geo or Scal works for the rest of the text.
